I
have a friend who has the good fortune of having family out here. I went with her, and her brother-in-law to the
mall, and afterwards, I went to her family’s house for tea and dessert. Even
this young man was trying to feed me as he showed my friend and me where we could
shop for our needs. I had already had a
giant dinner with R., but this is not an excuse for not eating!
Our
cab dropped us off at my friend’s family’s house. This house was beautiful. One thing I can say about Jordanian people is
they have beautiful architecture. Every
house is required by law to be white by the King. However, it is not required to be so ornate
or beautiful. The masonry of each house
in my area just blows me away. This
house was not different. Outside the
house were grand balconies with beautiful stonework. Inside the house was crown molding, and gorgeous
furniture.
The
family, as well, were so generous. It
seems that feeding me far much more than I am used to happens in all Jordanian
families, and this one was not an exception.
The food was amazing, and the family was not only willing to patiently
listen while my friend and I talked, but also gently correct to help us
improve our Arabic. When it was time to
go home, they did not want me to walk, even with an escort. Instead, they drove me to my apartment, and
insisted that I take home some food, and come again for dinner later. This is the kind of people who live in
Jordan. I have never seen such generosity.
Oh
how I love this people.
For pictures, thought I'd share the view off of my back window.
